This is an observational evaluation done to establish developmental needs of children. Most children who exhibit hyperactivity, short attention span, speech and language difficulties, physical and movement challenges and sensory processing difficulty may benefit from this evaluation. The result of the evaluation is used to develop early intervention programme which may involve therapies, diet and supplementation, training in deficit skills etc. To achieve this, we work closely with parents, caregivers, teachers and therapists.
This is done to find out the challenges a learner is experiencing and recommend appropriate intervention that meets the learning style of the individual. Educational evaluation entails assessing the processing ability, learning styles, comprehension, spelling, numeracy skills, reasoning ability, problem solving, memory (visual and auditory), motor coordination, attention span, activity level and social understanding among others. Children who are branded as slow learners, very active, those with autism tendencies and those who struggle with following instructions, verbal reasoning and social interaction may benefit from this..
iii.Vocational Evaluation and support
Vocational evaluation helps to establish the strengths of a young adult in regards to prevocational and vocational skills. It involves assessing social and living skills, cognitive abilities, motor coordination and pairing the results with the individual's vocational interests. It extends to vocational counseling, supporting trainers, helping the individual to make the right decision and 'fit-in' a particular career. Since we do not offer vocational training, we give appropriate referral. .
This is the analysis of biochemistry of an individual to find out if there are imbalances that may trigger behaviour issues, learning problems, hyperactivity, inattention, nervous irritation, problem with information processing, Gastro Intestinal Issues etc. This is a comprehensive test involving testing urine and saliva. Children with autism spectrum disorders, Hyperactivity, processing issues, irritability etc may benefit from the test. Most allergies, behavior and emotional problems, learning needs, sensory processing deficits, mood swings and memory problems tend to occur due to biological imbalances. Balancing an individual's body chemistry through proper dieting and nutrition may improve the quality of life, balance behaviours and emotions and improve development and learning..
This begins with an evaluation of the child's developmental needs followed by developing early intervention programme and training the parents, caregivers and other staff working with the child on the right interventions. Early intervention targets children who are at-risk and those with developmental needs and their families. It can be preventative, meaning that it would aim at reducing the chances of developing a disability or remedial meaning that the services would aim at reducing the effects of the disability, accelerating development, giving coping mechanism and helping the family to meet the needs of the individual appropriately. We also work closely with other professionals in pediatrics and can give appropriate referrals where necessary. .
vi.Trainings (for parents, teachers, therapists, caregivers)
Since we our services are needed by many people, we can only meet our objectives by training other interested parties to be able to offer the services elsewhere. We train parents to be able to work with their children at home for continuity of our services, teachers and caregivers to be able to identify learning needs and respond to them appropriately. Our trainings are tailor made to meet individual needs and range from early intervention, behavior modification, communication skills, academics, social skills and play to vocational evaluation and support..
We offer mentoring services to qualified special needs teachers, psychologists, early childhood teachers and regular teachers. Mentoring involve working closely with the specialist, attending assessment and intervention sessions and taking part in research and community services. viii.School Observation and Evaluation
On request, we can visit schools to assess the quality of their resources, how they are supporting learners with diverse needs and suggest ways of improving on their teaching methods, curriculum and content differentiation to meet the needs of the learners and help them source for appropriate teaching materials locally and internationally. School observation and evaluation entails assessing the physical facilities, teaching/learning resources, student teacher interaction, teaching methods, learning styles of pupils and class/school organization.
School consultancy entails developing a long term relationship with the school to be offering advisory services on issues like pupil/student behavior issues, curriculum approaches, parent & teacher training and referrals where necessary.
We evaluate learner's needs and learning styles and recommend on the most appropriate way of educating them in an inclusive set up. For inclusive society to be achieved, children must learn together! We help schools and parents to respond well to the learning needs of learners with diverse needs. Inclusive education is not just admitting children with special needs in regular classrooms, but their learning needs must be met and they must fully participate n learning. To achieve inclusive education, we prepare teachers, parents, typical and special needs children to accept and accommodate each other.
xi.Training in literacy, numeracy and functional computer skills
First steps intervention runs a series of sessions for children and adults who struggle with spelling, creative and productive writing, reading comprehension, numeracy skills and social communication.
